Memorial Day weekend

This has been a different Memorial Day weekend than I planned for us. Forrester woke up crying and screaming with an earache Thursday night. Come morning, he was fine, so I took him to school anyway, and then called his ENT to make a doctor's appt. for him. I joined Forrester for lunch and recess, something I haven't done as often as I'd hoped to during his kinder year in school. I don't know what next year's future holds for me job wise, so I'm going to try to join him more in this last week of school. After recess, I checked him out of school to take him to the doctor. It turns out he has a big ear infection that he has a blister that popped on top of his eardrum. That was the reason for the tears in the middle of the night.
We had these grand plans to go swimming every day this weekend because we finally had time to swim, and he's been begging every day after school to go, but we've been too busy, and I've been too tired. Now, due to his ear infection, we won't be spending Memorial Day weekend swimming. I hope to maybe take him to the sprinkler park on Monday, and have him wear ear plugs. I feel that should be safe enough for his ears but still allow him to have some water fun!

Last night, Nick had a church audio group meeting, so it was just Forrester and me at bedtime. We had a mommy/son slumber party in my bed. He read almost the entire book of "The Pokey Little Puppy" to me, but then near the end was too sleepy to read, so I read the rest to him. I am so proud of how far he has come in his reading and hope that he grows to love reading as much as I do. We both passed out at 8 something. He barely made it to 8 o'clock.

Today, we spent the day at home cleaning house and doing things around the house. Tonight,Forrester tried a new food, watermelon. He'd been begging to try it all winter long because in his PE class they were encouraged to try a new food, then they could hang a paper apple on the tree outside the gym with their new food they tried. Nick insisted he could never find it during the winter, but I found some last week. Tonight, was the grand event of the watermelon tasting, and he LOVED it! I got Nick to go ahead and slice up and cube the remainder of the watermelon and put it in a plastic container in the fridge so Forrester can have it anytime he wants. That is my desire to get him eating enough different fruits and veggies that we can have like that in the fridge easily accessible for him, so that he will choose to eat those instead of goldfish, etc.

Tonight, Nick reminded us that it's our dog Emmy's 4th birthday. Forrester got paper and made a sign for her birthday.

I'm not sure what our plan is for the rest of the weekend. Tomorrow, we'll go to church as a family, then come home to do some more cleaning. I'd like to do something fun as a family too, but am not sure what we'll decide.
