Montreat- heaven on earth...

June 2010

Our journey began after Forrester got out of school for his last day of kindergarten on June 4. We raced home to finish packing the car and headed to my mom's house in Shreveport, Louisiana, approximately a 6 hour drive. After arriving in Shreveport, we unpacked our car then reloaded all our stuff into Mama's car and hopped in to start the 2nd leg of our journey. Thank goodness, Forrester is a really good car rider and travels well. He's always traveled well in the car and is easily entertained with movies, his leapster, and other toys along with coloring. We arrived in Meridian, Mississippi that night around 10 or 11 pm, where we checked into a Holiday Inn Express for the night.

The next morning, we got on the road again for our third leg of the trip. It took us 9 hours. Finally, after traveling over 1000 miles in two days, we arrived in my most favorite place in the United States, and maybe even in the whole world.

Here's the back of the house we're staying in this week... I'm standing right next to the creek, so this is how close our house is to the creek.

We arrived in Montreat, North Carolina, the most beautiful place in the world, the place where I feel closest to God. I'm not an outdoors kind of person, but at Montreat, beneath the trees with the cool mountain breeze blowing, I can stay outside for hours. In the open areas, in the fields, the sun can get hot, but beneath the trees, and by the creek, it's just perfect. I love barely being able to see the sky, just like being under a ceiling of trees. There are walls of trees around you, and carpets of leaves, plants, rocks, and dirt. This is God's house. This is God's creation.

The creek behind our house...

Here at Montreat, though I've gotten on my computer, it's mainly to share bits and pieces of our experience. I don't see any need for cable tv or tv at all. I just want to be able to record our memories each day so that I don't forget anything.

I love seeing Forrester being a kid and being a boy, rock hopping in the creek, having fun, getting dirty, getting wet, walking to the park. I have only gotten in a car once since we arrived here, and then it was just that I had gotten too tired that I couldn't walk back to the house again. Forrester has rock hopped all the way from the park to our house. He's gone in the canoes and the paddle boats on Lake Susan.
Okay, I'm going to go ahead and publish this... I'll write more another day soon! :)
